June 1, 2008.    Episode 135: This is me when I'm doing yoga....not the "showoff" part but the falling asleep part because I'm so relaxed.

June 8, 2008.    Episode 136: Okay. Here's the story --- The nameplate on the front of our house says "Negron" because that's our name. It means "black" in Spanish. My husband's Puerto Rican so it completely makes sense to us. However, these neighborhood teenagers (boys) thought it was the most hilarious thing in the world to take the last "N" off the name and leave us with "Negro" on the front of our house. Stupid, right? Even stupider - one of the boys was black! You would think he'd know by now that it's just a spanish word for a color, just the same as Matt LeBlanc's name means "Matt the White".

Anyway, this went on for days - I kept going outside and chasing them off. I finally called the police and asked them if they considered this to be vandalism. The conversation went exactly as I depicted in the comic strip above. The cop on the phone snickered at the name change and then said "The next time you catch them, confiscate their I.D. cards."

WHAT?

"But they're running down the street right now. You guys always seem to have a car in the area, why don't you send somebody over here to follow them home?" DUH.

He said they'd check it out but I never heard from them. I finally fixed the nameplate so that it couldn't be altered easily and I think the boys finally moved away. It hasn't happened in a while but I thought it'd be funny for Jenny to have the same thing happen with her husband's name. That's how my mind works. :-)

June 15, 2008.    Episode 137: After this episode ran, someone wrote and told me that we can now wash the new uniforms in regular detergent.
The commissary still has the signs up so I'm erring on the side of caution with this one.
June 22, 2008.    Episode 138: Lonely spouses are easy to spot. They're in every club, group, and sewing circle.

June 29, 2008.    Episode 139: This comes from hearing on the news, over and over again, "Five more dead in Iraq". I want everyone to know who they were. They're not "five", they're John, Steve, Jane, Beth, Joe, etc., etc. I'm on Jenny's side on this but my husband says "They're troops. We all are." But he's my family so that means they're all my family...just like Chandra pointed out. And I feel the loss for each and every one. This is my July 4th episode.
